Welcome to this week's big Irregular Update which features Chapter Two
of the 2008 South Australian Tour Diary.
Last week's article,
Get Wines Direct Crosses The
Line, generated more feedback in a week than any other story or snippet on
TORBWine. The replies were an interesting mixed bag. Two were from wholesalers
that supplied GWD and both stated GWD was a highly ethical company. The
responses from some of their consumers were not quite as positive. The most
interesting response however was from GWD themselves. In it, they explained that "the reputable South Australian broker" who sold it to them, told
them it was the real McCoy.
So it looks like GWD got conned. If that was all that was said, I would have
quickly completed a rewrite on the story taking a slightly different tack. The
fact of the matter is, and this is the important part, when people tell lies
about the description of clean skins, or make exaggerated claims, someone is
going to get burnt, and it's usually the customer. In this case it was the
GWD. However, that wasn't all that GWD said in their e-mail to me. After having
admitted they had falsely advertise the product (whilst stating it was an
innocent mistake,) they called my story defamatory, my manner slanderous, and
threatened to sue me unless the story was removed by the end of that day.
Needless to say, it wasn't. I am threatened with legal action regularly, but
this is the first time someone has accused me of slander, posting defamatory
information, and has threatened to sue me after confirming the facts contained
in the story I wrote were true. Hello! You don't have to be a rocket scientist or
a brain surgeon to know that based on the information provided in that e-mail, GWD would have as much chance of winning a court case against me as I have of
having a splitting a bottle of good red with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran. If
you haven't read all the
feedback, it's worth spending a few minutes doing so.
A new article has been added called Green Wine.
No, its no Irish but the Irish are involved. What's more, it looks like it could
have been planned an Irishman. What has wine, sailing ships, Ireland, France and
Australia, as well as a Pastor who runs a couple of Op Shops got to do with each
other? Lots! Find out all about it
here.
Chapter Two of the 2008 South Australian Tour Diary turned out to be
bigger than expected. It's in excess of 30 pages. It starts off with our drive
from McLaren Vale to the Barossa, were we spent three days. We didn't visit many
wineries on this day, but we did taste lots of terrific wine. Our first port of
call was Kaesler. After this visit, I now have a confirmed new favourite winery in
the Barossa. Next stop was Langmeil and the tasting was better than
expected. After lunch it was off to Teusner to get their story and try
their line-up. The final appointment of the day was a beauty. Back to
Seppeltsfield to see what they were up to under their new ownership. All in
all, it was a top day. It can be found
here.
It will probably be two weeks before the Chapter Three hits the airwaves.
I am well into it, but I have a dining room table of samples that also require
my attention. So these tasting will be posted next week.
