Waninga 1999 Shiraz – April 2003
The medium charring to the oak and cloves from it dominate
the aroma and cover the berry and chocolate aromas.
A well balanced wine, the tannins are adequate support to
the mid weight fruit and the acid is still very youthful, so ideally the wine
needs a few years to reach its peak. Flavour intensity
and length are exceedingly good for a wine in this price bracket.
On the plate the once again char dominates the cloves, plum
and chocolate flavours which is a shame as there is some good fruit there, but
then readers should understand that I have a prejudice against charry oak.
No doubt those that don’t mind char would rate this wine
higher than my Agreeable with *** for value.
