Vasse Felix 2000 Heytesbury ($65) is a blended red and the winery's flagship which is due for release in March. Initially there was some VA which blew off, and dusty cedar dominated a complex array of fruit and mint. Smooth ultra fine dusty tannins and refreshing acid with distinct persistent fruit of great intensity provide the firm consistency and solid tight structure that will underpin a very long lived wine. The wine has a developed sophisticated level of complexity with savoury blackberry, mulberry, chocolate, mocha, coffee and mint that just needs time for the tannins to integrate which make this and iron fist in a velvet glove. Rated as Excellent with *** (just) for value. – tasted Feb 03
