Balnaves 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon SA2003

Bright dark purple in colour the bouquet is a warm typical Coonawarra Cabernet showing good complexity of blue and black fruit and a hint of mint on the tail and subtle oak.

Tannins are slightly powder and provide a good mouth feel. My notes say “great fruit” that’s deep, obvious and persistent which flows through to the palate as warm and savoury blackcurrant, other black fruit flavours, chocolate and mint.

It’s a muscular weight wine with a firm but supple consistency, a solid layered structure and a developed and harmonious complexity that finishes with wonderful length. Rated as Highly Recommended now with **** for value, the rating should increase as it peaks around 2007
