McWilliams Maurice O’Shea 1999 Shiraz – April 03
Wine tasted completely blind
Soft, warm slightly spicy, almost floral perfumed nose with
subtle white pepper and sweet berry notes and coffee, unusual but pleasant.
Creamy tannins that could do with a little more time to
loose the slightly dusty notes, well judged refreshing acid and solid deeply
seated fruit without extraction. Drinks well now due to the creamy tannins that
come from the obvious French Oak influence but it will last too. Its full
bodied without being heavy or extracted and seems to be fruit driven, but the
balance is there to support the structure.
Interesting and unusual palate flavour profile with black
pepper, black espresso coffee and some chocolaty plums with a good length
finish, it’s a most enjoyable wine. And the biggest surprise when I unmasked it
and found it was that it’s from the Hunter!
