Jeanneret 2001 Cabernets – May
03
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc,
Merlot and Malbec. The wine exhibits a complex, interesting and inviting nose
with some subtle and not so subtle nuances with everything from intense
blackberry, to subtle spice, musk, eucalyptus and menthol. The colour just
manages to stain the glass.
Fine grained tannins, oak that has been judged to perfection
and unobtrusive acid provide a wonderful backbone to the ample weight pure and
distinct fruit.
The complexity of the bouquet continues through to the
palate with intense and not quite savoury blackberry, sweet cassis and
chocolate which fills the mouth and finishes respectably. A big wine, its
drinking well now but it needs about five years to become seamless.
